Last week at a Greybull Middle School assembly, a student asked Senator Mike Enzi what he’s doing to support the LGBTQ community. Senator Enzi’s response was to provide an anecdote that if a man wears a tutu to a bar, he shouldn’t be surprised if he got into fights and “well, he kind of asks for it.”

Senator Enzi has since publicly apologized.

But we need to make it clear: When LGBTQ Wyomingites are faced with discrimination, harassment and violence, we’re “not asking for it”. All Wyomingites deserve respect and dignity and to feel safe in our state – no matter what they’re wearing at a bar.

This is why LGBTQ folks and our allies are throwing #ToLiveAndLetTutu parties! Wear tutus to a bar, school or church. The proceeds will go directly to our Gay-Straight Alliance program dedicated to serving the brave LGBTQ students forming GSAs in their schools.
